Jesse James
04:22
|
|||
One day a man called out Jesse James upon a train,
But Jesse just laughed there saying no one is to blame,
For when you steal from the world, there's bound to come a change,
But I'm not saying that I am Jesse James.
And one day a man spoke out from behind Ray Bans,
He sung his words to the world that no one could understand,
He brought forth chimes of freedom from beyond the promised land,
But I'm not saying that I am this man.
I'm not saying what's wrong or right,
I'm just trying to make sense out of time.
And one day a hurricane swept the bottom lands,
It left all homes and people without a helping hand,
It ripped a hole in the world which we will come to understand,
But I'm not saying that I lent a helping hand.
I'm not saying what's wrong or right,
I'm just trying to make sense out of time.
And one day we made a man President of the States,
In a hope to change the face of the entire human race,
But we all know he's just a man trying to fill a place,
And I'm not saying that I'd like to take that place.
I'm not saying what's wrong or right,
I'm just trying to make sense out of time.
I'm not saying what's wrong or right,
I'm just trying to make sense out of time.

Don't Leave Me Hangin'
03:16
|
|||
Don't leave me hangin', don't leave me hangin' out here,
I've been stranded for far too long.
Don't leave me hangin', don't leave me hangin' up here,
My hand's tired of being in the air.
Don't leave me hangin', don't leave me hangin' out here,
I'm dying to get some rest,
You done left me on your doorstep for way too long.
I tried to text ya, 'cause you won't answer my calls
and my battery's runnin' low,
And if I catch you, I'm gonna skin you alive
for all the lies that you done told.
You told me seven and now it's way past nine
and it's starting to get cold,
I ain't mad at ya man,
I just really wanna change my socks.

Little Maggie
03:36
|
|||
Go to sleep little Maggie, when you're layin' in your bed,
And you ain't got no one instead, but me.
Don't reach your hand out to another, when you wanna reach me,
I'll be back in a week, stay put for now.
Go to sleep little Maggie, don't put on your lipstick,
Or your hands around some Dick or Tom.
Or some dirty Harry, wherever he may roam,
So just smoke a joint and go, to sleep for now.
We'll take my picture by the railroad track,
I'm gonna see my Maggie and I won't be back,
Tell the brakeman to hustle 'til we hit the stacks,
I'ma throw my ever-loving arms around her neck,
And we'll keep this engine rollin' like a real machine,
Like a fog-pounding driver that you've never seen,
If you don't believe a word you'd better split the scene,
For I'm bound to see my baby down in New Orleans.
Go to sleep little Maggie,
When you're laying in your bed,
And you ain't got no one instead,
but me.

No Man's Land
04:20
|
|||
No man has ever known a touch as soft as yours,
When you came along you changed my world for good...
Black out lights and the drunks outside are clanging on,
Come along with me if you wanna see what's going on,
'Cause the city nights and the drunks outside write poetry on the wall,
Come along with me if you wanna see.
No man has ever known the throne of love so close,
When you came along you dulled the noise for good...
No mans might can defy the fight of a thousand strong,
Come along with me 'cause we have to see what's going on,
We'll report the sight by the fireside and write music with the drunks,
Come along with me if you wanna see...

Grown from a Grain
03:38
|
|||
Call me up to the mountain,
Give me a time to go,
I'll meet you up by the fountain,
Where the stars above hold their glow.
Call me whatever you want to,
Deerhoof or Pounding Paw,
We'll cast our spells by the fire,
And dance like a waterfall.
But I shall remain a child of the traitors,
We're split by the pain of a hundred year war.
And you grow from a grain that is native to this country,
We are not the same and the cost is too steep.
But call me up to the mountain,
Give me a time to go,
I'll meet you up by the fountain,
Where the stars above hold their glow.

Johnny
04:58
|
|||
Papa writes to Johnny,
"Mother won't be long - she has such brittle bones and her lungs are weak.
And son we found your name - under the pillow where she lay,
Carved on the bedboard very faint."
"And you weren't here on Tuesday, when she found your uncle's gun.
And screaming at the sun, she fired one off.
She hit a bird, clipped a sparrow's wing.
Like an arrow slinging from the bow."
"And I've never seen her this way.
And I swore to God, I wouldn't 'til my dying day."
So Johnny reads his letter, on the 32nd floor,
Of a high rise building in New York
And he had to weep as he fell on his knees, "My God!" he screamed,
"The sparrow's me!"
And he doesn't remember why he left,
And he swore to God he wouldn't 'til she was dead.
So remember friends,
When you're leaving home,
Don't tell nobody just
Where you've gone.

Liza
03:20
|
|||
The leaves are gone, neighborhood too,
The weeds in the ground can't even think to move,
But they're gonna try,
Try to get over you.
No whiskey in your still house, you don't even have the rye,
There's nothing in the barnyard, it's just cold and dry.
You know the reason you just have to try.
So get back Liza, get back Jane,
I done kicked you outta town 'cause you're driving me insane,
But I'm gonna try,
Try to get over you.
The price of admission only gets you half a ride,
And there's no part of the law that is on your side.
Don't want no one to cheat you,
You just haven't tried.
And there's nothing in the free world you ever fail to win,
But this time my friend, it seems you're losing steam.
And I always did my best to be everything you need,
But with you there's room to disagree.
So get back Liza, get back Jane,
I done kicked you outta town 'cause you're driving me insane,
But I'm gonna try,
Try to get over you.
No whiskey in your still house, you don't even have the rye,
There's nothing in the barnyard, it's just cold and dry.
You know the reason you just have to try.

Other Side of Town
02:42
|
|||
Scarecrows huddle in the rail yard,
Babies play in the heath,
Old men gather at the side of the road to watch
Mamma doin' laundry in the creek.
I'm goin' down,
Clear across the other side of town.
Beatniks sweat from the Bible,
Homeless sweat from the heat,
Daddy got beat by libel,
While brother gains from cheatin'
I'm goin' down,
Where the climate suits my clothes.
I'm goin' down,
Clear across the other side of town.
Pigeons line all the fenceposts,
Tin cans rattle in the streets,
Madmen talk to the side of the wall,
While their cigarette puts them to sleep.
I'm going down,
Where the chilly winds don't blow.
I'm goin' down,
Clear across the other side of town.
Soot comes flyin' through the windows,
Mud comes up through the pipes,
Get myself to the other side of town
If I ever get to sleep at night.
I'm goin' down,
Goin' where I never been before.
I'm goin' down,
Clear across the other side of town.
I'm goin' down,
Clear across the other side of town.

Riverbed
03:43
|
|||
Time seems to hold me way down,
Down by the river where the children play,
And don't mind my rhythms,
And don't mind my oceans,
Just climb my hillsides and ride me 'til day.
I seem to grind up my daylight,
And hold my paycheck like an unmarked grave.
So bid me a lighter and hold it to me
Smoke me down like the riverbed.

Procrastination
03:01
|
|||
Well I went skipping out in Central Park,
To hear the birds sing and see the angels flock,
Gonna get me wings so I can fly,
I wanna go a swimmin' in the deep blue sky.
And Gabriel sits there and blows his horn,
But you won't ever see him if he don't come 'long.
'Cause when you are burdened with responsibility,
You won't ever wanna hang out with the likes of me.
For I am the beast of weary and woe,
The places people go to when they don't wanna go,
I hide
I hide
I hide...
